Bird Watching
The star for bird-watchers in Mid Wales
has to be the legendary Red Kite. Persecuted almost to extinction, this wonderful bird
now soars proudly above the mountains and valleys of Mid Wales. Y
Barcud Coch (this is Welsh for Red Kite) is only one of many rare and beautiful
birds to delight the keen ornithologist. Look out for Goshawks, Buzzards, Owls,
Ravens and Falcons not to mention the many species of water birds and
waders.
The best place to see the Red Kite is at the Bwlch
Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre , where you can watch the birds being
fed daily at 3pm. There are a number of nesting boxes in the nearby
forest, and a video link to the visitor centre shows the activity
in these as the parent birds raise their chicks.
